How to Wash Delicate Clothing in a Washing Machine

Washing machines make our life easier. These are machines that can do the laundry for you. Now you can sit back and relax as you let your washer do the washing for you. But hold that thought for one second. HOW TO WASH DARK CLOTHES? Is it still alright to let your washer do the job for you?

The problem with delicate clothes is that they can get easily damaged by the spinning cycle of the machine. Front load washers are okay since agitator is not integrated in this machine. However, those who are using top loaders with integrated agitator must think twice before trying this method out. Flimsy fabric can get easily torn up by the spinning agitator. So here are some tips on how to wash your delicates:

1. Make sure you sort your laundry out first so the delicates will not be included with your other daily wears. If those clothes have stains on it, you should spot clean the stain first before using your washer. Beware of using bleach for your delicate clothes when you have a front loader. Since a front loader has very efficient water and detergent immersing functions, bleach can burrow in the flimsy fabric and can damage it. You'll end up with holes on your laundry.

2. Purchase mesh bags. Washer companies usually include this upon buying your washer. If you don't have it, you can make your own make-shift mesh bag. Just purchase a net bag, cut it in and sew it to form a simple bag. Make sure you cut some allowance for the flap. Put your clothes inside the bag and then seal it with the zipper or a button. Your clothes will be washed but they will be protected from aggressive turning and spinning by the bag.

3. Use the delicate washing cycle of your machine. There is a delicate washing cycle, after all. Choose medium water setting, gentle or delicate cycle and allow the washer to do its thing. This is a cycle that will not spin the drum aggressively.

4. If you have a dryer, allow the clothes to dry halfway through. 15-30 minutes in the dryer is ideal and then you can just let it hang on a sunny place to dry completely.

These are the tips on how you can wash your delicate clothing using your washing machine. Now that you know the proper way to wash it without damaging it, try it the next time you wash your clothes.
